Fortnums X Spode: 1770 Italian
Made in England
Every aspect of our new 1770 Italian collection has been designed and crafted in England, exclusively for Fortnum and Mason. Made from fine bone china in the heart of The Potteries, Stoke-on-Trent, using methods stemming from Spode’s innovations in the 18th Century we are so very proud of. Did you know? It was Josiah Spode II who perfected the recipe for fine bone china over 200 years ago, which became an immediate success.
Delicately scalloped and featuring a beautiful new re-imagining of one of Spode’s iconic patterns, this tableware and afternoon tea collection is a magnificent celebration of Spode’s glorious 250 year history. Don’t you agree?
The design is of course inspired by our blue and white china pattern, Blue Italian. Spode's founder, Josiah Spode I, was recognised as the first potter to use the technique of transfer printing onto earthenware in 1784, and also pioneered the manufacture of blue and white earthenware in Britain. Becoming one of the leading potters of his day.
The timeless pattern has now been remastered in red and black colourways, and together with its scalloped shape, a stylish playfulness is bought to the table. Get ready for the most wonderful luncheons.
Topped with 22 carat gold embellishments, this Spode fine bone china collection is made up of the essential tableware for afternoon tea, including gold edge plates, a choice of three teapots and fine bone china mugs. It is the epitome of luxury dining.
