The Best Activities to do at Home

Spending a lot of time indoors can soon take its toll on your boredom levels, especially when you run out of fun activities to do at home. However, we’ve come up with a number of uplifting activities that will not only cure your boredom, but they’ll boost your mood too! From a little bit of self-care to baking a show-stopping cake, these fun activities are sure to brighten any day and keep you entertained for hours.

Pamper Yourself

There’s nothing like a bit of self-care to help cure boredom. From facemasks to painting your nails, there are a number of different ways that you can pamper yourself that’ll keep you entertained and leave you feeling completely destressed. Some of our favourite pampering activities include:

  • Giving yourself a facial
  • Trying out a new makeup look
  • Experimenting with a different hairstyle
  • Full body brushing
  • Giving yourself a manicure and pedicure
  • Taking a relaxing bath with music, candles and wine

So whether you spend an entire evening practicing self-care, or you simply set aside an hour in your day to indulge yourself, you’re sure to notice a huge uplift in your mood afterwards.

Do a Home Workout

Whether you’re a self-confessed gym bunny, or the thought of exercise fills you with dread – a home workout is one of the best ways to keep yourself entertained at home. From HIIT to yoga, there are a huge number of workouts for all levels of experience and energy levels!

HIIT workouts are a great way to get your body moving and get those feel-good endorphins pumping and you don’t even need any equipment! If you’re a gym newbie, you can find a massive selection of workout videos online which you can simply follow along to, and some of them are only ten minutes long – which is great if you’re concerned about your fitness levels.

However, if you fancy something a little less active than a HIIT workout, then yoga is the perfect alternative. A great stress-reliever, yoga is the perfect early-morning or pre-bed workout, as you’ll finish your session feeling very Zen.

There are a number of different types of yoga, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Bikram; but Hatha is the most popular among beginners. Similar to HIIT workouts, there are a number of different yoga videos for beginners available online, so you can take part at your own pace and reap all of the benefits!

Get Creative

If you’ve got a bit of artistic flair, then there are a number of different creative activities you can try out at home. From learning to knit, to making your own pottery – there are a huge number of crafty activities that’ll entertain you for hours, including:

  • Watercolour painting
  • Pottery making
  • Candle making
  • Soap making
  • Knitting
  • Creating a dried flower wreath

Aside from curing your boredom, studies have shown that creative activities have a number of different health benefits, including improved mood and increased brain function. So you can cure your boredom whilst improving your health at the same time – it’s a win-win!

Embrace the Journaling Trend

Journaling has become a huge trend in recent years – and for good reason! As part of the self-care movement, it has become as important as meditation and exercise when it comes to improving both your mental and physical health. From increasing your IQ, to boosting communication skills, journaling has a number of benefits, including:

  • Improved memory
  • Better sleep
  • Reduced stress and anxiety levels
  • Enhanced creativity
  • Strengthened immunity
  • Improved mood
  • Enhanced self-awareness

So if you’re looking to start your journaling journey, it couldn’t be simpler. We’d recommend paper journaling instead of digital journaling, as not only will it give you ten minutes away from screen, but a number of the benefits will be enhanced by simply putting pen to paper.

Try to journal at the same time each day. Just before bed or first thing in the morning are the most popular times, as this is when people’s thoughts are often most active. Set up a cosy space, grab a warming drink in your favourite mug and set a 10-20 minute timer, jotting down every thought that comes into your head during that time. From things that you can’t get off your mind, to a gratitude list – there’s no limit to what to journal about or what format to write it in.

Get Your Bake on

Whether you fancy yourself as the next Mary Berry, or you’ve never used a mixing bowl in your life – baking some delicious treats is one of the most uplifting activities you can do at home. As an incredibly calming activity, baking is perfect for when you need to relax and de-stress.

From gooey cookies, to show-stopping cakes, there are recipes for every skill level and occasion. So whether you want to find a screen-free way to unwind after work, or you simply want to get creative and try out a new activity – baking is the perfect choice. Plus, you’ll get something delicious to sample at the end of it!

Catch up on Podcasts

If you’ve made your way through Netflix and baked to your heart’s content, listening to a podcast is another great activity to keep yourself entertained at home. Whether you want to learn something new, laugh out loud with a comedy podcast, or you’re curious about true crime – there’s one for every mood and occasion.

One of the best things about podcasts is that they’re usually free to listen to, so whether you’re doing household chores, taking ten minutes for yourself, or spending your evening learning about a new subject - you can easily access hundreds of podcasts at the touch of a button.

Perfect Your Latte Art

Latte art has been a huge trend on Instagram in recent years. From 3D animals to celebrity portraits – there’s no limit to the art people have been creating with their morning coffee. So if you want to try your hand at creating some Instagram-worthy latte art, you will need:

  • Whole milk (Oat milk is a good plant-based alternative)
  • A milk jug
  • A large mug (a cappuccino cup is ideal)
  • A toothpick
  • A coffee machine with steam wand
  • Coffee

Once you’ve got your hands on all of the equipment above, it’s time to start getting creative with your caffeine! There are a huge number of latte art tutorial videos available online, so you can follow a step-by-step guide and get creating some incredible latte art!

So whether you embrace a new home workout regime, or you experiment in the kitchen – these are some of our favourite activities to do at home that are sure to lift your mood and keep you entertained.
