Visit the birthplace of Fine Bone China.
A leisure and heritage experience right in the heart of the potteries.
A visit to Spode is much more than an opportunity to see and appreciate the fascinating processes and time-honoured craftsmanship that create works of outstanding beauty.
Established since 1770, it was at Spode that two of the most important chapters in the history of ceramics industry occurred.
In 1784 Josiah Spode perfected the production of under-glaze blue printing on earthenware from hand-engraved copper plates - a development that assured Spode's reputation.
But he did a great deal more!
In the late 18th century he produced the single most significant development in the history of the ceramic industry - the perfection of the formula for Fine Bone China, leading the way for the whole industry.
Today the unique Spode tradition continues to be preserved and enriched for all to enjoy.
