Spode's Aster dates back to about 1832 when it was known as Chinese Plants
and was often produced as a plain print in blue. The border is of two
interlacing plants, a chrysanthemum, or aster, and a periwinkle. An early
pattern number is B312 (c1832) decorated underglaze. There is another
early 19th century version with pattern number 5216 (c1833) which was
decorated on-glaze.
Pattern number 2/8130 was introduced in about 1926 when the pattern was
known as Aster. This version was printed in pink and coloured underglaze.
Another version printed in grey and coloured lime green has pattern number
S3168 and was introduced in about 1956.
The pattern was on Gadroon shape.
Spode's Aster was withdrawn in the mid 1980s but reintroduced in the
late 1990s as part of The Blue Room Collection.
