Introduced: c1890 (possibly before)

Discontinued: 1973

Charlotte shape was recorded as registered number 159276 on 20th October 1890 at the British Patent Office. It is possible that the shape had been in use earlier.

The ‘swirl flute’ design in one form or another had been a porcelain shape for more that 150 years. Initially, at Spode, the shape was used on both bone china and earthenware but after about 1920 it was used on earthenware only.

A whole range of patterns was available on the shape. These included some well-known designs such as Fairy Dell, Bouquet, Rosebud Chintz, Florence and Patricia. The shape was withdrawn in 1973
