Ascot shape introduced in 1998 took inspiration from an earlier shape produced by Spode. In 1977, the year in which Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Silver Jubilee, a new shape introduced at Spode was named Jubilee for the occasion. This shape, in turn was inspired by designs adopted for pewter and silver in the 17th century. It was used for the Fine Stone body in a delicate grey colour and decorated with Oriental inspired patterns. The Fine Stone body was discontinued in 1995 Today Ascot shape is produced on Spode's white earthenware known as Imperial ware. (NB this name should not be confused with Spode's 19th century Imperial ware which was an ivory coloured earthenware)
