Pattern no.: Y5280
Introduced: 1937
Discontinued: c1980

Chatham pattern featured fruit centres delicately printed in pale black with a strong gold line and edge. It was produced on Regimental shape.

It was a reproduction of Spode's patterns 501 and 1513 introduced originally in 1804 and 1811 respectively, both of which were decorated using bat prints. The full range of subjects used on the patterns is illustrated in the book Spode Printed Ware by D Drakard and P Holdway (Longman 1983 ISBN 0-582-50140)

A coffee can and saucer displayed in the Spode Museum is an example of this pattern which was presented to Princess Margaret by the Government of the Isle of Man in about 1960.
