Pattern no.: 2/9165
Introduced: 1930

Butchart pattern takes its name from the famous Butchart Gardens in British Columbia . The design has pattern number 2/9165 which was first recorded in 1930. The pattern was produced on Charlotte shape

The gardens were established in the early 1900s by Robert Pim Butchart and his wife Jenny. As they became better known more and more people began to visit them. Visitors were made welcome and in 1915 it is recorded that 18000 visitors received tea in the gardens sometimes served by Jenny Butchart herself!

It would seem that the pattern was given the name Butchart in 1936/37 after correspondence from the proprietor of the Spode Shop in Victoria written to Mrs Butchart who wrote '…..appreciate the honor you do us in naming the Spode dinnerset Butchart and hope it will be a success.'
