Camilla was designed in 1833, the year in which the business was transferred
to Messrs Copeland and Garrett. First printed in blue, it was soon offered
in a wide variety of colours including green, brown and pink, a colour
in which it is still available today. Some items are available in blue
as part of the Blue Room Collection.
The central spray is thought to be of the Tea-plant Camellia Sinensis
from which the pattern may have derived its name.
Early examples of Camilla have been excavated on the sites of former
Hudson's Bay Company sites in North America.
