Bells, the famous distillers, had supplied their whisky in bell-shaped decanters for many years. The Spode company tendered for the contract in 1959 and won it. The shape was given the number K1145 with decoration under the pattern number F1080.

The decanter was made from earthenware with a golden brown glaze shaded to darker brown and with a cork held in an earthenware stopper.

The order having been won from Doulton was relinquished to Wades in 1961.
