Aviary pattern has registered number 713890 which registered the design with the
British Patent Office on 12th June 1925. The pattern was produced in various
versions. The design has pattern numbers 2/7972, S1270, S1635, S1636 and S1903
on earthenware, spanning the years of 1925 - 1937 for the introduction of these
versions. On china, only pattern number R8656 is recorded from 1925.
The pattern features exotic birds on Marlborough shape earthenware tableware.
Another Spode pattern of 1881 is also called Aviary but features centres of
'natural' birds rather than exotics.
