Astor is taken directly from pattern number 1865 which was first recorded in about 1813. The exact date of introduction is not known. Interestingly the pattern is on a page in the second early Spode pattern book which bears a watermark of 'W. Davie & co 1804' but unfortunately this is no guide to dating the pattern more accurately.

Most patterns of this period have simply the design and the number painted andwritten into the books but 1865 has the addition of the words 'Gold edge' in script written at the side.

The design is of five delicate flowers and a leaf spray scattered on the surface of the ware. Produced in the Regency period (1811-1820) it is typical of the style of this time. It was perhaps influenced by the fashionable chintz cotton fabrics imported from India and decorated with little flowers which were much-loved at that time.

Under the name of Astor the pattern was reintroduced in 2000.
