Chippendale pattern was first recorded in 1906. It has registered number 474683 which registered the design with the British Patent Office on 24th February 1906 .

There are several versions of the pattern each with a different pattern number. R2680 and R2989 of 1906 are two of the most usual found on bone china, whilst 2/7173 of 1918 was produced on earthenware. In the early twentieth century there was a revival of classical design influenced by interior design of the eighteenth century. Several Spode designs used this style. The Chippendale name was taken from the famous furniture maker of the eighteenth century.
