Blighty was first recorded in about 1916. The style of the pattern is oriental and reflected in an alternative name of Dragon Vase. There are several versions of the pattern. Pattern numbers 2/6921 and 2/6922 of 1916 and S317 of 1934 are the best known. The pattern was registered with the British Patent Office on 4th December 1916 with number 658632.

The name Blighty is the slang name for England and home used by the soldiers during World War I, 1914 - 1918. The word is an Anglo-Indian corruption of the Hindi word bilayati which means foreign or European.
